What’s new is just a
little news about the Tropical Plant Industry. We hope you’ll
find it informative, entertaining, helpful or whatever.
We’ll try to update it frequently, so keep in touch.
August 4, 2006
It
has been a long recovery from the
multiple hurricanes impacting the Florida Nursery industry in 2004
and 2005. Many nurseries have closed, others have only partially
rebuilt while some are just now restocking new structures. Real
estate values are driving more nurseries off the market. The good
news is that availability is better now than at any other time this
year. Everyone has one eye on the Tropics now, ready to take
precautions. We know we are in an active cycle of storms and we know
the impact on our nurseries can be huge. Keep these things in mind
when planning purchasing. Don’t wait til the last minute and don’t
guarantee delivery without a weather related disclaimer.
Spring
2006 was huge! Tremendous
demand for House Plants and Tropical Patio Plants. Again in 2006
King’s solved transport problems for many by running our own trucks
to many states. This program was very popular and will be continued
all year and expanded next Spring. In spite of sky high fuel prices,
our customers freight factor went down!
King’s
also experienced a huge surge
in our export business to Canada. Our ability to consolidate and
provide one pickup, one phyto makes the difference. We look forward
to seeing our friends at the Garden Expo in Toronto October 17-18,
2006. Our Caribbean business continues to grow as well with
referrals generating most new customers.
Everyone
is talking about our Custom
Label program. Unsolicited testimonials are gratifying. It seems we
have really struck a nerve. Our garden center customers are getting
custom care labels for every plant we ship. The labels include their
Company Name and Logo, Plant Name and Common Name, Care Info, and
often retail prices and Barcodes. Our Interiorscape customers are
even asking for labels with the plant name and ‘Born On’ date
(ship date).
The
nursery is filling with new
production for Fall, Winter and Spring sales. Our weather is
predictably hot and humid- just right for Tropicals.
King’s
Foliage will be participating
in many Trade Shows in the next 6 months including….
